Purposeful Players and Right 2 Survive presents

Right 2 Be

A 49-day progressive game design challenge to address houselessness in Portland, OR

If you are still hoping to get in on the Right 2 Be challenge, we have good news for you!
We understand that the extreme heat and public transit issues created difficult challenges for many would-be-participants. In light of that, this coming Wednesday, August 9th we are holding a second launch event for those who would still like to partake in the challenge at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne at 7pm.
Last Wednesday we had an intimate meeting that yielded many bright ideas – you have one more chance to join in and create a meaningful game about houselessness.

See you there!

Homelessness is an ever growing concern in Portland, Oregon as affordable housing becomes more scarce, with no significant increase in resources for those displaced. As community members we must open our eyes and focus our attention on this humanitarian issue. Very popular and accessible, game design is a great medium to create meaningful experiences that open the hearts and minds of players and designers alike. The Right 2 Be game design challenge aims to bring game designers closer to those in our community affected by homelessness through a compassionate understanding of their experiences. This understanding will help designers create games to shine light on the stories of this largely invisible population, promoting awareness and respect.

During the Right 2 Be challenge you will form a group with other game developers and take a specific story from Right 2 Survive and turn it into a game ready for print. To do this we will partner you up with your peers, and provide connections to professional game developers and technical experts that can help take your scribbles and make them clear. How are we doing this you might ask, this challenge is centered around four main events and a weekly meetup outlined below, as well as significant work with your team. The events and process is outlined below
